Relationships of Indian Indigofera L. (Fabaceae) based on ITS sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA.

Sequences of the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions were employed to infer the relationships of Indian Indigofera. Parsimony and Bayesian analyses of ITS data suggest that the genus Indigofera is monophyletic. Rapid divergence and recent speciation events are indicated by the high similarity in ITS sequences. Pinnately compound leaflet is a nonhomologous trait and has evolved multiple times independently.
