In this paper, the calculation of the Cosserat constant l for a polycarbonate honeycomb is carried out experimentally. Circular-cell honeycomb plates were compressed under uniaxial loading for two different boundary value problems. The first configuration was a plate with a centrally located circular hole while the second was a plate with a rigid inclusion. The deformations of the honeycombs were recorded and used to obtain l. The latter was achieved by comparing the experimental strain and displacement fields with those predicted by an analysis based on the linearized Cosserat theory. In addition, the results were compared with classical elasticity theory. The value obtained for l/a (a is the radius of the hole or inclusion as appropriate) ranged from 1.8 to 6.
