摘要

Owing to advances in the production of high intensity, coherence and highly monochromatized synchrotron radiation in recent decade, x-rays scattering has become a highly desirable technique for the investigation of the dynamical properties of condensed matter. Scattering using x-rays offers several advantages over neutrons. In this report, the basic theoretical ideas and recent dramatic developments in synchrotron-based inelastic x-ray scattering are outlined. Potential applications of these techniques are illustrated through the study of the dynamics of clathrate hydrates. The specific application of inelastic x-ray scattering for the characterization of the phonons and the role of the guest-host interactions on the phonon band structure is described.
