This special issue, which is based on the symposium held during the 227th National American Chemical Society in Anaheim, California, in March 2004, contains 14 papers focusing on the role of biotechnology (particularly through genetic engineering) in the production of herbicide-resistant crops. Current status and future prospects are discussed.
