Producers have plenty of insecticide choices

During all of my years with Extension, one of the more frequent questions I receive from producers, regardless of the pest problem is: "what can I spray with?"It wasn't long ago that the list of insecticides labeled for pecan was notall that long. I remember when we could list all the labeled commercial insecticides on one sheet of paper, with room to spare. However, over the past several years with some patents expiring, there has been a tremendous number of new named products labeled for pecan. For example, when the active ingredient imidacloprid was first introduced to pecans, there were 2 named products— one for foliar application and one for soil application. Now I know of 25 different named or formulated products with imidacloprid as the active ingredient.
