Pediatric Resuscitation. Preface.

There is nothing more intimidating and frightening to most pediatricians than having to resuscitate an infant or child in cardiac arrest. Fortunately, this is a relatively infrequent occurrence, but that infrequency means that we often do not perform well in these extreme emergencies. Furthermore, we usually do not practice resuscitation in our offices, clinics, or even in most hospitals. After years of incremental advances in our knowledge regarding the science of resuscitation, the last decade has witnessed substantial advances in both resuscitation science and in programs designed to reduce the incidence of in-hospital resuscitation, and to improve resuscitation team performance.
