POM systems are running on board machines with production capacities from 100,000 tpy to 400,000 tpy. They provide improved cleanliness and process stability and enable fast start-ups and fast changes from brown to white grades. The degassing capacity of a POMp, which creates an airfree short circulation, is especially beneficial on linerboard machines, which typically, are built without mechanical degassing. Degassing improves the dewatering capacity of the former, which improves the strength properties of the web and increases throughput. In addition, the more compact POM system reduces energy consumption and the need for additives such as retention aids, slimi-cides and defoamers. POM is currently building compact wet ends Russian and Indian machines which will produce LWC and P&W grades and will come on stream in 2009.
