Lifeboat rescue: The Steveston Lifeboat, a vessel that has made 861 rescues over its career including 21 during last summer's Fraser River sockeye salmon fishery, had to be evacuated after it was holed by a submerged piling during a Dec. 11 training exercise.The boat had departed the Steveston harbor on the Fraser River in Richmond, British Columbia, to conduct radar training."As we headed out, I handed the watch over to one of our other captains, a master mariner, because I wanted to concentrate on training," said vessel commander John Horton. "We were going to go over and anchor where we could see better, but as we were heading out he said, TT1 just cruise up and down right off Steveston. So I said, Then go to the red buoy and turn upriver.
