New skate fishery, renewed shrimp fishery, ice this summer

Getting busy: Walking down the docks in Cordova harbor this time of year, we're starting to see the first glimpses of how busy the floats will be in just a few weeks. The first longliners started coming to port in mid-March, delivering their catch from the pilot skate fishery, and boats were gearing up for halibut and black cod, which were offloaded at processing plants starting March 21. The Trident plants have been undergoing some major renovations, with crews working all winter on upgrades and construction projects in anticipation of the 2009 season.
