Enviros stage 'first' expedition to find B.C. coral gardens

B.C.'s Living Oceans Society launched its "Finding Coral Expedition" to search for deep-sea corals in Hecate Strait and the Queen Charlotte Basin. The society said that two Deep Worker manned submarines piloted by a science team were slated to dive todepths of up to 500 meters to gather evidence of corals, associated species, and damage from human impacts. Jennifer Lash, executive director of the Living Oceans Society, said that corals are homes to rockfish, shrimp, and crabs and are often damaged by fishing gear.
