Hopes for several proposed wave energy projects in Oregon have dropped like the 2 dollar million test buoy that plummeted to the seafloor off the coast last October. The Canadian energy company, Finavera Renewables, recently removed the failed 72-foot-tall test device from 110 feet under water near Newport, Ore., and says it has no plans to float a second experimental buoy off the Oregon coast. The company still doesn't know what sank the buoy.
