Coast management defunding: The Alaska Department of Fish & Game budget and capital project spending on fisheries issues were untouched by Gov. Sean Parnell's veto pen, but the governor reemphasized his opposition to a local voice in coastal development planning in his actions on the capital and operating budget bills for the fiscal year that began July 1. Parnell vetoed a provision in the state budget bill that would have given his office $2.9 million to distribute among state agencies to start rebuilding the Alaska Coastal Management Program (ACMP) if an initiative petition on the state's Aug. 28 primary election ballot passes.
