Bob Johnson, the owner of Johnson's Paint in Boston, looked both internally and externally in hiring the two people who currently call on commercial accounts for his business. "We've hired one from outside the store and one from inside the store," Johnson reported.The salesman recruited from outside the store's employees already had outside sales experience in the paint industry. "He had experience doing sales southeast of where we are located," Johnson reported. "He already had good knowledge of the products, including two of the lines we carry. Plus, he had a pleasant personality and a good reputation. People had heard his name before."
