Paint stripping and coating operations by March 11 must be in full compliance with standards (issued several years ago by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) to reduce air toxins created by "smaller emitting sources." The standards require shops to paint vehicles in a fully enclosed spray booth with a specifically defined filter system. All paint spraying must be done with a high-volume, low-pressure spray gun, or with a method that has an equivalent transfer efficiency.
