摘要

The interval hypoxic training (IHT) was originally developed in the former Soviet Union and consisted of repeated 5-7 min of steady (9-12%) or progressive hypoxia (down to 5-7%), interrupted by equal periods of recovery, rn a previous study we reported that moderate intermittent hypoxia induces changes on the hypoxic ventilatory response. IHT might also reduce sympathetic activity, but without any significant changes in blood pressure. We also provided evidence that repetition of hypoxic stimuli induce a long-term effect on respiratory regulation, although these changes could be in part modified by the breathing pattern of the subjects. Potentially, these effects may have a positive influence on cardiovascular autonomic imbalance and disturbed ventilatory response in patients with different dysfunctions, including rare diseases like familial dysautonomia, or widespread diseases like COPD.
