ANYANG IRON & STEEL GROUP’S ANYANG STEEL OPERATIONS

Anyang Iron & Steel Co. Ltd (Anyang Steel) is an integrated steelmaker located in Anyang City, Henan, China. Production started in 1958. It is wholly owned by Anyang Iron & Steel Group. It currently has a crude steel production capacity of 10Mtpa, and is the largest capacity plant in Henan Province. Its low position on the crude steel cost curve is a reflection of Anyang’s capital investment to modernise the plant. Of note are the relatively large blast furnaces (~2.5Mtpa capacity compared to China average ~1.25Mtpa) that combined with a high blast temperature and top gas pressure of 1250oC and 3.8 bar respectively, leading to significant fuel rate savings. Cost advantages are further enhanced through the replacement of coke by PCI thus further reducing metallurgical coal costs.
