Roofing tiles, and wall and floor tiles respectively, are manufactured by using natural raw materials. Hence, that is the reason why faults sometimes occur due to the raw materials used, or because of defects in surface coating (engobes or glazes). Additionally, many types of defects arise through operational faults. Since the manufacturing chain for tiles (Fig. 1 a,b) is multi-level and therefore complex, the number of possible defects is fairly high.
