Honorary Chair of World Standards Day 2003

Representatives of the US World Standards Day Planning Committee have announced that Jack Dangermond, founder and President of the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI), will serve as Honorary Chairman of the US celebration of World Standards Day on September 30,2003 at the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC. The goal of World Standards Day is to raise awareness of the importance of global standardization to the world economy and to promote its role in helping meet the needs of business, industry, government, and consumers worldwide. October 14 marks this international event that pays tribute to the thousands of volunteers around the world who participate in standardization activities. Mr. Dangermond's participation in the US celebration of World Standards Day symbolizes this year's theme, "Building Global Security Through Standards," and highlights ESRI's recognition and commitment to the development and interoperability of standards in the area of Geographic Information Systems (GIS). ESRI's technology, software development, and support help perform countless vital tasks including the determination of new national boundaries during peace negotiations, the rebuilding of cities around the world, the containment of oil spills, and routing of emergency vehicles.
