DOCERAM GmbH is one of the four subsidiaries of the MOESCHTER GROUP, operating alongside DOTHERM GmbH, STS FRICTION GmbH and DOCERAM Medical GmbH. It manufactures engineering ceramic products from oxide and non-oxide materials. Since its founding in 1994, it has vastly extended its product portfolio from thread guides for the textiles industry to high-precision components for mechanical engineering. By building up a range of standards for the welding industry with the specially developed Cerazur material, DOCERAM GmbH has been able to secure large market shares over the last three years. There must be good reasons for such a metal-based application such as welding technology to introduce more and more components made from high-performance ceramics. In fact, centring and positioning pins made of Cerazur have proven far superior to conventionally used hard metal components. The high mechanical loading capacity of the Cerazur and its excellent fracture toughness (K{sub}(IC)) compared to standard zirconia grades contribute to this superiority. Users profit from the electric insulation and the low adhesion of the ceramic to metal, which means that no welding spatters stick to the pins. For higher thermal shock loads, the DOCERAM range also includes pins made of silicon nitride (Volcera), which exhibits around double the thermal shock resistance and an even higher hardness than Cerazur, although its fracture toughness is only around half of that of Cerazur.
