摘要

The 99,431-sq.-ft. center houses seven buildings on a 20-acre campus woven together with shaded canopies and walkways. It was designed to parallel the diagram of the typical farm which brings together a wide variety of components into a functional whole. This design concept brings together offices, laboratories, support space, greenhouses and research plots. Crops are grown and harvested for research purposes to publish information about better farming techniques in the desert. The structures are organized in a linear configuration that parallels the movement of research material and information though the facility. Structural steel was chosen for the project because of its economy and efficiency, and for the sustainability of the project. The project uses a variety of construction techniques, including pre-engineered metal buildings, steel moment frame structures, tilt-up concrete bearing wall integrated with internal steel structure and bearing wall CMU with internal steel framing.
