To support their start-up manufacturing operation, Eclipse Aviation requested a facility tailored to aircraft painting operations. The recently completed 67,400-sq.-ft. facility includes four painting booths and two alodine booths, plus preparation and other finishing spaces within the main bay and several attached support areas. The support areas include paint mixing and storage, booth HVAC yards, painting operations offices, restrooms and employee break spaces. To remain viable after Eclipse Aviation vacates the facility, its conversion to a commercial carrier aircraft storage or maintenance hangar was stipulated by the City of Albuquerque Aviation Department. A clear span is achieved with 200-ft. long girder trusses and the clear height was maintained by locating the principal HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems between the trusses. A 150-ft. long section of the east wall was designed for ease of removal and replacement with a large hangar door to accommodate future commercial aircraft.
