The bid by the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to rein in advertisements of fairness creams has been lampooned by some sections of the press as an over-reaction to TV content. An editorial in The Times of landia, April 11, 2003, said that the "fuss around the so-called objectionable television content is getting tiresomely routine."
