IRM Refuge Compliance: A Third Party's Proposal

The onus is now on seed companies to be the compliance enforcers, as a requirement of their agreements with tech providers. Over the last few years, surveys have been conducted to gauge how well growers are in compliance with insect resistant management (IRM) refuge requirements to help prevent insect pests, such as the European corn borer and the cotton bollworm, from developing resistance to Bt technology. There are seven IRM requirements for Bt cotton: structured refuge, resistance monitoring, remedial action plan, compliance assurance, grower education, grower agreements and annual reports.
