Rocky road for media slocks

Premiere's shares fall while UK and Polish companies overcome share slides. As the global downturn continues, so does the downward performance of many Cabsat 50 companies, but there were some positive signs. UK broadcaster ITV has had a rocky few weeks, with shares falling steadily at the end of June and into July, during which time it complained to the communications regulator Ofcom that its public service programmes will not be cost-effective in the future and discovered that its online on-demand joint venture with BBC Worldwide, ITV and Channel 4, known as Kangaroo, is under investigation by the Competition Commission after being referred by the Office of Fair Trading. Its shares started to pick up midway through July, however, as it was revealed that it was in talks with potential investors looking to buy pay-TV operator BSkyB's stake in the broadcaster.
