Billet volatility gets attention of Turkish scrap market

Turkish scrap import prices remained flat on day Friday as uncertainty split expectations in the market. Platts assessment of premium heavy melting scrap I/I (80:20) imports was stable at $230/mt CFR Turkey. After the market on close process had finalized a deal between a US East Coast merchant and Turkish blast furnace-based mill came to light. The merchant sold 24,000 mt of HMS I/II (80:20) at $230/ mt CFR and 6,000 mt of bonus at $240/ mt CFR. Using market accepted differentials, this price would normalize to around $235/mt CFR for 80:20 against Platts methodology.
