US-based Nucor is setting the pace for domestic price moves in September, marking up rebar by 30 dollars/st and merchant bar and wide-flange beam by 50 dollars/st-but the finished-steel price increases represent only a fraction of the recent scrap price upturn. In the last month, shredded scrap has climbed about 75 dollars/long ton, as the Platts SBB daily scrap price assessment is now between 405-410 dollars/lt delivered to the Midwest.
