摘要

Over the past 18 months, those of us in the cyberse-curity business have witnessed a collection of high-profile atypical cyber threats, a significant political focus on the issue of digital security and the massive mainstreaming of the term "cyber." The volume of threats is also noteworthy. In January, SophosLabs saw on average 95,000 unique pieces of malware every day - an astonishing quantity of malicious code compared with previous years. Combine all of this with a period of significant evolution of technology and you have a whirlwind. Amid such extensive coverage and debate, trying to separate hype, fact and fiction can be difficult. Are we at cyberwar? The answer is no, or at least not yet. For most organizations, high-grade cyber espionage is a possibility, but placing too much attention on the risk of sophisticated attacks can distract security officers from preparing for more likely scenarios.
