Schnitzer CeO sees stable scrap prices after big drop

Major US scrap exporter Schnitzer Steel anticipates scrap price stabilization in the near future following price declines totaling some 100 dollars/long ton from the end of May into July. After the 60-70 dollars/lt drop in the price of scrap in June, spot sales and firm offers indicate that July will bring about a further 30 dollars/lt drop in the price of scrap. Schnitzer CEO Tamara Lundgren, however, believes prices may stabilize going forward.
