摘要

The kinetics and mechanism of oxidation of some p-substituted acetanilides by potassium permanganate have been studied in 1:1 (v/v) acetic acid - water at 35 deg C. The order with respect to [oxidant] and [sbustrate] is found to be one in each. The reaction is accelerated by electron-releasing substituents. The Hammett plot is obtained by ploting lg k_(obs) versus #sigma#. The high negative slope indicates that the reaction involves a positive species as an intermediate.
