Twenty maize varieties comprising advanced breeding lines, hybrids, commercial varieties and a local check "Sarhad White" were evaluated for days to silking, plant height and grain yield at Agricultural Research Institute, D.I. Khan Analysis of variance revealed that maize varieties differed significantly for days to 50% silking, plant height and grain yield per hectare Maize varieties C3569, C-919 and P-3110 took maximum days (59) to 50% silking where as variety EV-1089 took the lowest (45) days to50% silking. The highest plant height of 240cm was obtained in C-3569 and the lowest (183cm) in C-919 Maize varieties C-922 and P-32-P-75 gave the maximum yield of 9.5 t ha~(-1) each, which was 70% higher than the grain yield of 5.61 ha~(-1) harvested inthe check. Other varieties with significantly high yield were C-3560 (9.1 t) and C-707 (6.5 t). The varieties had a wide genetic background and hence the yield ranged from 3.7 to 9.5 t ha~(-1). Maize varieties C-922 and P-32-P-75 were found as the mostpromising. These varieties have the potential to increase the average yield of maize in D.I. Khan region and are recommended for general cultivation.
