Opinion of the European Economic and Social Committee on the 'Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products

On 27 January 2011, the Council and, on 18 January 2011, the European Parliament decided to consult the European Economic and Social Committee, under Article 43 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, on the Proposal for a Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council amending Council Regulation (EC) No 834/2007 on organic production and labelling of organic products COM(2010) 759 final - 2010/0364(COD). The Section for Agriculture, Rural Development, Environment, which was responsible for preparing the Committee's work on the subject, adopted its opinion on 6 April 2011. At its 471st plenary session, held on 4 and 5 May 2011 (meeting of 4 May 2011), the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) adopted the following opinion by 156 votes to 6 with 10 abstentions.
