Blade plate fixation is commonly used to treat disorders of the proximal femur, such as hip subluxation and dislocation, in patients with neurological disorders such as cerebral palsy. Patients with poor bone quality may have less than satisfactory blade plate fixation, especially in the proximal (blade) portion of the plate. Some plates account for this by allowing for supplemental screw fixation in the proximal fragment, although this may be of limited value in osteoporotic bone.
