There has also been a minor quake in Auckland, but the real trembler in Wellington has been the proposed capital gains tax. News of the proposal was leaked to the media and the headlines based on rumours and supposition far exceeded the actual media space once the official information became available. Sorting fact from fiction has been interesting, as have the surprising views of some public figures. Right wing leaders have come out against the idea of such a tax but a number who could be expected to follow the Government line have been in favour. All very surprising, and it will be interesting to catch up with the political party opinion poll findings once things have quietened down.
