RIG ACTIVITY SLUMPED BADLY IN JANUARY

The new year got off to a slow start with January rig activity down 20 per cent from a year ago to only 456 units at work, the lowest for that month in Canada since 1999, the Daily Oil Bulletin reports.The DOB's Rig Locator surveys show only 54 per cent of the 847 rigs available for work in western and northern Canada were active during January, down from 568 active rigs and a fleet utilization rate of 65 per cent a year earlier. Weekly rig counts during January were consistently down by 126 to 149 rigs from last year.
