Folic acid fortification and the controversy.

Controversy surrounding the fortification of foods with folic acid and its impact on public health are discussed. Aspects considered include: importance of folate during pregnancy; effects of folate fortification on actual intakes in the United States; intake of folic acid from food, and its benefits and concerns; folate and colon cancer; and folate and other cancers.
