The following is an example of an oilfield incident and investigation. The problem: A land-rig contractor was hired by a Canadian E&P company to build two rigs for a fixed fee. After 100 contract days, an inspection of the construction site and preliminary review of the contractor's bank accounts proved that the delay in delivering the first rig involved misappropriation of funds. The E&P client believed funds provided were being used for other rig work.
