The Texas upstream oil and gas economy grew steadily during 2010, becoming an important job-creation engine in the state by posting gains in every month of the year to lift the Texas Petro Index (TPI) to 229.9, a year-long increase of 22.1%. The Texas Petro Index is a service of the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, the nation's largest state association of independent oil and gas producers.
