The top world rubber industry, China, consumed about 33% of global rubber last year, which was well ahead of second place USA, which took less than 11 %. However, it was not until 2002 that China overtook the USA to become the world's largest rubber consuming country. The industrialization process in China, which started around 1999-2000 and led to a steady increase in global nibber offtake, helped push natural rubber (NR) price to show a steady rising trend for most of the 2000s.
