A Potter's Shed

Friends, acquaintances, even one's partner occasionally asks, 'Have you had a good day?' On a bad one I sometimes tersely reply, 'Well, I sat alone in a shed for eight hours listening to repeats on Radio 4'. Is that a life? Writing this piece is a good exercise in finding the answer.I get up reluctantly half an hour after the radio alarm bursts into life. I am not very good at getting up early. Unfortunately I can't claim to be an 'evening person' either. In the last few years my working hours have become more structured by the imposition of school and nursery timings for Luis (6) and Esta (3) and the tyranny of the order list.
