Union Power Cooperative in Monroe, N.C., really started something when it brought David Gross and Todd Harrington together four years ago.At the time, Harrington was the co-op's geographic information system (GIS) administrator. A veteran GIS expert who had applied such systems in everything from law enforcement to real estate, he had joined the co-op three years earlier to help it figureout how to make the most of its new GIS tool.When he was assigned to Gross's new engineering & operations support group in 2010, that unit was busy with an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) project. The team was also working on ways to combine, manage, and leverage information from the co-op's many existing databases and systems.
