Press reports about Reliance Industries signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Russian firm for production of butyl rubber in India has been highly appreciated by the rubber industry. India is depending upon imports for butyl rubber and every year sizable quantum arrives from abroad. Though India has the raw material to produce butyl rubber, a factory to produce it has been eluding the rubber industry for a long time in the absence of appropriate technology.
