1,3-Dinitro[b,f]ciibenzoxepine undergoes nucleophilic substitution with O- and S-nucleo-philes, the nitro group at position 1 (peri-nitro group) being selectively replaced. The factors responsible for the selectivity of the reaction are discussed.
