The processing of plastics naturally involves a high energy consumption. The industry is striving to reduce this consumption, not only in view of the rising energy prices. An equally strong driving force is the credo of sus-tainability that is finding more and more supporters. During the processing of thermoplastic polymers, heat has to be used to melt the polymers and to form the finished products and then this energy has to be dissipated again. From an energy point of view, the finished mold- ing is at the same level as the delivery form, the pellet. The forming process therefore has to be made as efficient as possible.
