Contamination of mercury in Buyat Bay, North Sulawesi, Indonesia: bioaccumulation, contamination status, and potential impact to human

摘要

The marine environment of Buyat Bay, North Sulawesi, Indonesia, is suffered contamination by mercury discharged from submarine tailings of a gold mining industry. The concentrations of mercury in marine sediment and biota (fish, bivalve and gastropod, seagrass and macro-algae, soft coral) as well as human's hair were examined in the present study. Bioaccumulation in trophic level of marine environment, contamination status, and potential impact to human are characterized and discussed in this paper.
