Removal of proliferativemembranes from the retina is essential for treating proliferative vitreoreti-nopathy but has remained difficult.1 Membrane del-amination with several scissors or special instruments, maneuvered with one hand or bimanually, have been used.2 However, these techniques are both time-consuming and invasive. Therefore, recently, some vit-rectomy surgeons have preferred to remove the fibrovascular membrane using only a 25-gauge vitrectomy cutter with no scissors during vitrectomy. However, each vitreous cutter has its unique performance characteristics which depend on its cutting cycle, flow rate, and duty cycle. To remove fibrovascular membranes more effectively and safely, we have applied a surgical technique using a 25-gauge vitreous cutter with the high flow rate and high duty cycle.
