Since the introduction of vitrectomy in the 1970s, substantial progress in retinal surgery has been achieved. Over the past few years, minimally invasive sutureless transscleral access with 23-gauge trocars and instruments became a popular technique for vitreoretinal surgery. However, during valve-free 23-gauge vitrectomy, frequent manipulation of the sclera, the conjunctiva, and the trocars with forceps Or specific designed instruments (i.e., footplates, caps) is necessary.
