INTRARETINAL FOVEAL NEOVASCULARIZATION IN CHOROIDEREMIA

A 72-year-old man experienced a progressive decline in central and peripheral vision in both eyes since age 20 years. At presen-tation, his best-corrected visual acuity was 5/400 in each eye. The fundus examination revealed diffuse chorioretinal atrophy, most prominently evident in the posterior pole. There were also discreet islands of atrophy in the near peripheral fundus and marked retinal pigment epithelial thinning in the posterior segment of each eye (Figure 1). Irregular clumps of pigment were also seen centrally surrounding the foveal area. An etectroretinogram showed only a small response to the brightest flash under dark-adapted conditions and a normal implicit time. The patient was diagnosed with X-linked choroideremia.
