Comeal contact lenses have been used since 1980 to improve vitreous surgery techniques by providing a better visualization of the eye fundus.1 The most common surgical devices are the irrigating lens system, the handle lens with viscoelastic material, or a lens system sutured to a metal ring.2 Some complications can occur with the sutures used to secure the ring because they have the potential to cause bleeding, which can accumulate between the contact lens and the cornea and obscure the surgeon's view. There is also the possibility of perforation of the globe.
