Modernisation of railway track structures on Ukrainian Railways: an overview

The integration into the international traffic corridors of Europe and Asia, and the inherent necessity to increase train operating speeds and to comply with international standards regarding ride comfort and traffic safety, have required Ukrainian Railways to develop and implement technical advances and to modernise its main-line track structures. In the past decade and a half, Ukrainian Railways has managed a large-scale modernisation of its track structures and adopted new track laying methods and technologies. This article presents an overview of a number of measures that have been implemented.
