摘要

Ombudsman and Patients Association reports, scandals at NHS trusts, and headlines that nurses are too posh to wash' or 'too clever to care', give rise to charges that nurses have stopped caring. We could blame managers, staff shortages or poor education. But what is the real reason why some nurses walk past a patient's bed knowing the occupant is wet, ignore cries for pain relief, or are simply nasty and cruel? Do some nurses have such 'damaged' psyches that they are not the right sort of people to be near patients?
